|Detective Itō Ayami|
|Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau 4th division|
Detective Itō is the main character of the game Tokyo Dark. She is a detective in search of her partner, Detective Tanaka Kazuki, who was reported missing. Being one of the few female detectives in her department, Itō is looked down upon by other fellow colleagues. Through her four years working for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, she has gained a respected reputation among a number of her coworkers, which she considers a personal achievement.
Itō shares an apartment with her partner Tanaka Kazuki, both of which work for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. She also has a pet cat living with her named Lady Fluffington. Despite her serious exterior, Itō is revealed to have a soft spot for cats, as throughout the game she shows adoration for not just her cat, but also various cat-themed merchandise found throughout Tokyo.
Itō was sent to Shinjuku when Detective Tanaka’s phone picked up a signal. After opening the dumpster she finds his phone ringing and picked it up to hear a voice claiming she has him in the sewers. After entering the sewers, Itō found Tanaka with his head covered in a bloody paper bag while being held at knifepoint by a girl. This girl was recognised as Reina, someone Itō though she killed under an influence 6 months prior in Kamakura. Itō depending on the choices attempts to talk and buy time with Reina by asking questions but Reina eventually kills Tanaka before having a flashback 6 months prior to the incident with Reina.
You begin 6 months prior in Kamakura where you meet Kanwana who seems to be hallucinating before the mask reacts to Itō, in a desperation to get rid of it she gives it to her causing Itō to feel nauseous and lose some sanity. After travelling over the bridge you find Detective Tanaka trying to do negotiation with a red-haired girl holding Mai Kanwana hostage with a knife. You find that she was searching for a mask to find a door and talks about the dark. All choices ends with Itō losing control over herself and proceeds to pulling out a gun to shoot a still-smiling Reina before fainting where you end up in the hospital.
